Girls Don't Fly by Kristen ChandlerMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
I decided I needed a break from the intensity of the Hunger Game books, and this book was absolutely perfect. Its market may be teen, but even as a much older woman (much, much older) I found the story compelling and enjoyable. Chandler has done a great job of bringing to life all the feelings, emotions, confusion, and triumphs of being a young woman pushing through her final year of high school. I would recommend it for anyone 14 and older. Great job, Kristin! Thanks for the wonderful escape!
I enjoyed the "story" within the story. Symbolism was well done without being too ambiguous or over the top. Also, the underlying messages of the book about being our own person and not giving in to peer pressure as well as importance of family were subtle but well presented.

I will have to give this a look but I have to admit that I got sucked in to the Hunger Games and read all three in one week. I liked the first one best, but still had to know how it would all end so I just kept reading.
