Magic

I can always feel it - there is pure magic in the air on Christmas Eve.

After a busy day (it always is!) of last minute finishing and preparing, as the sun slips below the horizon and the earth grows dark there is a special hush that falls over the rooftops.  I love that feeling of expectation that is ripe on the night before Christmas!  Pure magic!

I felt it as we drove over to Bill and Stephanie's this year for Christmas Eve dinner.  Each lit window breathed the excitement.  Each house decked in Christmas lights held its breath.  For this is Christmas Eve, come again.

I loved being able to share with Bill and Stephanie's family this night this year along with Dan (Joy of Joys to have him home for the holidays this year!) as well as our dear friend Leslie Harms - who brought the funnest things for the dinner.

Magic.  Pure magic.
Karsyn received a letter from Santa in the mail on this day.   Kamryn was happy to read it to her.  Karsyn had sent him a letter from her preschool class and in spite of how busy he was, Santa actually wrote back!

Leslie, Kamryn and Karsyn
Such a fun table and wonderful food - Bill barbecued steaks and shrimp on the grill out in the subfreezing temperatures - it tasted wonderful!!!   Definitely did not leave room for dessert.

After dinner there were a few gifts from Leslie - so fun to get to open something on Christmas Eve!

Leslie started aprons intended for the North Pole party - hard to tell in these photos but the fabric is little gingerbread men - and ran out of time to finish them for that - but the girls couldn't have been more thrilled to get them this special night!

And guess who has a slight interest in photography!

Every chance she gets she has the camera in her hands!

 New jammies!

Loved having Uncle Dan around!   Loved his teasing.  Ashlyn's a present!
She turned around and decided to put the bow on her mommy instead.   I missed the shot of it on Stephanie's nose.

After dinner, after opening some gifts, it was time to get those sugar cookies made for Santa.  Great to break in her new apron!

Magic.
Beautiful magic of Christmas Eve.
Thanks, Stephanie and Bill, for letting us be part of your year this Christmas Eve!
