Don't worry, Mom, they said when we were packing them up to move to Boise. It's only temporary, they said. Makinzee was pregnant with their first child, Mike had just finished his Masters and had been hired for a company that did marketing analysis for Albertsons. Already they had been weekend partners for too long while Mike made the transition and the house they bought was being completed. So Mike would spend the week in Boise living with his grandparents, and Makinzee, pregnant Makinzee, was trying to box up and move out. That move was made in two stages - because their house sold so fast. Stage one into a storage unit. Makinzee couldn't leave her job in Utah yet and moved in with her grandmother for a while.Stage two came several months and many long trips between Boise and Utah as Mike made his weekly commute, later. The day they made the final move, Kinz found out their baby was going to be a little girl.
My only consolation in having them move so far was first, that my parents lived less than a mile away as the crow flies. And I've always loved Boise, so that was a good thing, too. My parents moved a few years later, but Mike and Makinzee made their own kind of family from dear friends they made in Boise.
And they made their own kind of family with, well, family ... first Maddy, then Jack, and most recently Lexi, whom we've hardly got a chance to know, came into their lives. One would think a five hour drive would seem close, but it could have been across the country for how often we've been able to go up there.
Well, Mike's job changed. He started working for DelMonte, but when Albertson's started falling apart they wanted him to transfer to some very cold state in the midwest. They decided they were already farther from home than they wanted to be, so when Mike was offered a job with dotcomsecrets.com based in Boise, he readily accepted it. That was about two years ago.
And everything seemed to be going just fine. He loved the work, which stretched his skills and helped him learn a lot about Internet marketing. And they were being successful, and he had what appeared to be a great future there. We had resigned ourselves to the possibility that "temporary" may be another definition for "permanent" in their lives.
And then a week ago, JUST one week ago Monday, Mike's company came crashing down around them. Without any real warning and only a few rumors and rumblings, suddenly all the employees were no longer employees. Lay offs. Company failures. Not that company, but other companies tied to that company, that brought that company down with them. It was not a pretty picture.
And just that fast, Mike applied, was interviewed and hired for a firm down here, into a job he's always hoped to get, one that actually requires him to do real advertising, which is what he graduated in, for real businesses. And he started YESTERDAY. Back here in Utah.
I was reading the comments their friends have posted on Facebook about how sudden this all is. And yes, I guess it is sudden. I am sure they would have wanted more warning. But at the same time, it has been six years in the making. Without the business experiences Mike had there, he would not have been prepared to compete successfully for this new job. They've had wonderful friends in Boise, and they will always carry a piece of Boise in their hearts. It's the only home their children have ever known and being an Idahoan, myself, I'm kind of proud that I have three grandchildren who can boast the same status. But it's time.
Time to come back.
Time to make new friends and time to be with old family, and time to move forward with life.
And we are thrilled to have them back in Utah! Just that quick!

Wow! I'm balling! I didn't know this would be so hard! Thanks for your prayers.
This pulls my heart in so many different directions, especially since I am 30 hours from home in one of those cold midwestern states. How awesome that Mike found a job so quickly. That is amazing! Heavenly Father really has a hand in everything, which is why I trust that if I am ever supposed to be back West, that door will open.
Congrats to Mike and Makinzee!
We are so happy that mike and kinz are coming back home. It's wonderful that mike found a job so quickly.
I am so jealous!! More grandkids, closer--what a happy/sad time for them.
