...like Friday, when we had a golden eagle come to our imaging center for an MRI of the brain.
It had been hit by a car, and has been blinded.
Fortunately the MRI shows no signs of damage to the brain. She should heal and see again.

After she was sedated, the vet inserted an IV for contrast agent. Tiny tiny veins in the wing are not easy to locate!
Those talons! The handler had to keep hold of them the entire time she was out of her cage.
He even had to keep holding on while she went into the scanner. Even though she had been sedated and was in a very calm blissful world.

Wow, what a beautiful bird. That's great that you guys were able to help her. And even better that there is no long term damage.
Well that's an interesting patient. Great pictures!
What I didn't know at the time was that they were prepared to put the bird down if the MRI showed significant brain damage causing irreversible blindness. Fortunately, she did not show signs of any brain damage. They think she'll recover given enough time. And should be able to see again.
What a beautiful bird! I hope she heals quickly!
What a cool job!
