Niagara Falls

The main purpose of our trip was to attend a Board of Directors meeting for Brent's company insurance program.  We've been privileged to get to do these trips annually for the past several years - last year it was in Whistler, Canada and this year it was in Niagara Falls, Canada.

So Wednesday afternoon we headed up to the border which turned out to be a lot faster trip when we were willing to just pay the silly three bucks and take the toll freeway.  We stopped for a minute on the American side and though the park at the Falls is still beautiful, I felt like the area around it was disappointingly rundown.

I was impressed, however, with the Canadian side, which had beautiful manicured lawns and flower gardens everywhere.  The Falls were as impressive as I remembered them, too.

We were staying on the 47th floor of the Hilton and this was the view from up that high.

Wednesday:  We drove up from the Palmyra area, toured the American side just long enough to miss the meeting Brent was planning on attending (it was just an orientation meeting, anyway, and he's been to those before so it wasn't critical).  We checked into the hotel, found the business meeting area and got Brent's registration packet, unpacked our luggage and ate dinner at Macaroni Grill in the hotel.  It was a great day.

Thursday:   Joined the other people attending the meeting for a tour of a winery, an old bed and breakfast converted from a big cannery where we had lunch, a trip on the Maid of the Mist up to the base of the Falls, and dinner in a restaurant on the brink of the Canadian Falls.  You can see it in the picture above, located at about 5 o'clock in the Falls area.

Evening sunsets brought rainbows with them for two of the nights we were there.

Friday:  Brent had meetings all day.  I took a leisurely walk down to the Falls and wandered with my camera for a while, exploring the area.  When I got back to the room, the Jakuzi was hollering so loud for me that I could hear it from the elevator.  So I enjoyed a deep relaxing bath and then Brent showed up with a few hours to kill before dinner.   We went out to the Floral Clock to take photos and then we stopped at a blown glass shop and bought me a new bell before returning to our rooms to get ready for the formal dinner.   That was in the hotel and the food there along with all the rest was really really good.
Brent caught me.  Seriously, the camera strap and my shirt caught up a little make this an awkward photo.   :)  But since it's the only one of me from the trip, it's what you get.

Glass bell on the right came from the Rossi artists in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Saturday:  We left the hotel early in order to catch our flight.  It was a good thing.  It was raining in sheets all the way to Buffalo.  The flight to Baltimore was delayed because of the weather.  And the flight to SLC from Baltimore almost got stopped because of turbulent air where we needed to fly.  Turned out NY was having tornadoes.  I was glad we took the other way.   We were only a little late arriving in SLC.  It was just so good to be back home again, but I miss the Sean L family already, and love the memories I now cherish of a great week with Brent.

You got so many pretty shots! How fun that you could go along and turn business in to a fun little getaway. I saw the American side on my mission but of course the Canadian side was out of my boundaries so I did not get to cross the border until a year after my mission and yes, the Canadian side is prettier. Boat riding is also a mission no no so when I went back I really wanted to go on the Maid of the Mist. We got there just before the last ride of the day and Ann dropped Seth and I off while she went to park in hopes that even if she didn't get back in time that we would get on board but sadly we just missed the boat. Maybe someday...
