Such Sweet Times

Brent and I spent last weekend staying two nights in downtown Salt Lake City.  We had a great time being tourists in our own land!   It all began when Brent purchased tickets to the Friday night Utah Symphony's performance of "Do You Hear the People Sing?", a tribute to Boublil and Schonberg's music.  Then we realized we already had tickets to "Shrek" for Saturday night at the Capitol Theater.  And we decided to go whole hog and just spend the weekend up in town.  We do that on occasion, but it has been a while.

I wanted to do some photo safari kinds of things while we were there, but Brent didn't want to haul the camera bags, so we both left them home.   I am so addicted to photography right now, however, that I couldn't leave photo taking home with the bags.   Introducing a tool I've ignored:  my phone camera.

Ah Ha!  It does in a pinch, for sure!

We were neighbors, almost, to Heather and it was fun to join up with her and share the Planetarium and later dinner with her, and she would smile for the camera.  Brent would not.

I have to say this:  the Symphony on Friday night was phenomenal!  For a very reasonable price we had great seats and a fabulous performance by the guest stars!  There was an extra surprise for us because both Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg were there in person to take bows with the performers at the end of the evening.   That made a terrific evening even more terrific!

Saturday night's performance of Shrek was very novice and unprofessional in comparison.  Oh, well.  We didn't go with high expectations and have determined that in the future, even if we have to trade our tickets for extras for the shows we want to attend, we are not wasting any more time with the shows that are below par.   We expect a lot more from the Broadway traveling productions than what that one gave.   I do have to say this, for a town that gives standing ovations to everything, to not have ONE person stand at the end of that performance shouted a huge statement!

And Tuesday night we slipped up to Mike and Makinzee's to catch the very tail end of Lexi's birthday celebration.  They had a ton of things going on Wednesday and we had a ton going on Tuesday, so we didn't get together much for this.  But we got to see her huge grin and ooh and ahh over the gifts she had received earlier.
We brought Edna with us and she had a great time playing with the babies.  Lilly had a great time playing with Lexi's horn.
Ashlyn found a toy.  Grandma found a baby on the other end.

Makinzee used the owl theme and the kids helped decorate the darling cupcakes so they looked like owls.   They saved a bite for us.
Lilly kind of stole the show because she decided this was the night she would start putting one foot in front of the other and began walking.   At one point, four steps in a row.  I suspect since Tuesday she is probably running all over the house.  That seems to be the way she learns things.
We weren't there long, and I didn't get many photos, but I loved watching the cousins (Lexi and Karsyn) playing together.  Did you know Candyland has many different ways to play it??????

Happy Fourth Birthday, dear Lexi.  Each grandchild is a sweet treasure for us!

How fun to make a whole weekend out of it, even if Shrek was less than stellar. It is playing here and I was actually wondering if the kids would like it, but maybe it isn't worth the cost of admission.

I love that you made a vacation of the weekend even in your own neck of your woods. Thank you for the cute clothes and movie , Lexi had a great week!

What a fun weekend trip! I thought it was odd that Shrek was made into a musical, too.
