July 4, 2013

Our Fourth of July was mostly quiet.  Brent went into work and, as I mentioned in the post below, I was nursing a hurting foot.   But Mike and Makinzee with crew in tow, came and joined us for a picnic dinner in the park.  Mike was pretty insistent that we could grill hamburgers there.  I was not as convinced, but as it turned out, he was right.  HE could grill hamburgers there.  We hauled over the charcoal starter, some old charcoal I've had hanging around the basement for years, and a grilling pan that belongs to something different, but it worked great to keep the meat from falling through the wide grids - also protected it from the "germs" on the grill.

Waiting for the hamburger to finish cooking, Makinzee took a minute to take some shots of my patriotic grandchildren.  (Oops, don't look at Grandma, Lexi.)

Later she tried another shot over on the slides.   Lilly wasn't too sure she wanted to hang around for more pictures.

But Lexi is always happy to pose.  We're going to have to train Lilly.

In fact, Makinzee has her kids so well trained for the camera that as these two, who were in the throws of a bitter argument and fight over who was coming down the slide first, did this as soon as they realized I had the camera out.   Hahaha.

Lilly discovered she was able to do the slide all by herself.   With big grins each time she made it to the bottom.

After dinner at the park, we all went to join Bill and Stephanie and Stephanie's family at their home for their neighborhood show in the front yard, which was by all means super extensive and a show by itself ....

...and then to the back yard for the Lehi City Fireworks at Thanksgiving Point.  I thought, after seeing all the wonderful aerials going on in private celebrations (above), that it might make the city one seem a little anti-climatic.   I should have known better.   At the first deep boom, we knew it was going to be another great show!

Happy Happy 4th!   I absolutely love this great nation!  And love celebrating it with family.  Thanks, Bill and Stephanie, for making room for us with everything else you had going on.  And thanks, Mike and Makinzee, for letting us be part of your day, too.

We weren't sure what our 4th would bring but it was perfect from start to finish. Thanks for dinner and of course the cute pixtures.

I am laughing at the pic of Maddy and Jack posing like best buds. My kids do the same hurry up and pose thing for the camera too. I love all the read white and blue on the bright red slide and Makinzee's skirt is super cute too.

This is kind of late, but our computer has been such a mess lately, that I haven't been able to see all these lovely pictures until just tonight. But they were waiting for! What adorable grandchildren you have, & what terrific pictures! Thank you for letting me enjoy the 4th with you.
