de-LIGHT-ful Zoo-de-LIGHTS

Ok, first a word of explanation: Last week Kamryn started talking about the LION in our house. Not the cat. Not a friendly thing, but a Big, Scary LION. She told me it dropped down from the ceiling and started to chase her.
Which is really a very sad thing.
A bad dream most likely, perhaps as a result of a left-over sandwich she ate. But still, very very real to our little Kamryn.
So the decision was made to take her to the zoo during ZooLights - to see a lion in a cage and know that she is safe from him.
Right?

Monday night Bill and Steph bundled up their little ones, and Brent, Tonya and Brian all joined us at the Zoo.
I did say bundled, right?
The zoo is decked out with lights everywhere.
We went under the sea with this display.
And into the heart of Africa with this one.

And of course, what ever is a trip to the zoo without a ride on the animals on the carousel?

Around and around and around....

But what about the live animals? Like the lions and tigers and bears?
Well, the bears are all hibernating.
And sadly the zoo is currently without a lion.
But there were TIGERS. See?

Did I mention it was cold? As in foggy, creep through the layers of coats, seep into your fingertips and redden your nose and rosy your cheeks kind of cold? But what could we expect? It is, after all, December! Tonya and Brian smiled through the whole thing...
And then invited us to their apartment where we got to see their beautiful tree, and play their WII...
... and drink HOT CHOCOLATE! With snowman-shaped marshmallows! Yum.
... And get out of those layers and layers and layers and layers of blankets and buntings. And that is worth a big smile!

But after all was said and done, Kamryn is still convinced there is a lion in our house. Which goes to prove the saying: If you want to disprove a lion in a HOUSE don't go to the ZOO.
(But if you want to go to the zoo, don't wait for a lion as an excuse!)

I'm with Makinzee...the zoo in December? I love that they get it all decked out with lights though. What a fun and unique way to celebrate the season.

It was cold, but it was also festive and I think Kamryn was too wired to even feel cold. Turned out to be a very fun evening.
