Day 4 - On Excesses

A Habit I Wish I Didn't Have

I wish ...
I did not talk so much
I open my mouth and out it comes
and comes
and comes
and comes.

I wish ...
I did not eat so much
I open my mouth and in it comes
and comes
and comes
and comes.

I wish ...
I did not hoard so much
My rainy day stash
of all things but cash
keeps growing
and growing
and growing.

I wish...
I did not try to do so much
Just one more thing I'm heard to say
for I'm later
and later
and later
each day.

I wish...
I knew how to stop this trial of Excesses
This filling of all my open recesses
this overindulgence
and filling each moment
and saying too much
and eating too much
and saving too much
and doing too much

I think if I did
that I would soon find
Instead of a life filled with Excesses,
A life filled with just rightessnesses:
saying just right
and eating just right
and cleaning just right
and promptness
just right.

And instead of all the Excesses
I would soon find my life
filled with
gloriously
shining and
wonderfully
happy,
extraordinarily
delightfully
fun
Successes!

Oh my goodness. You are talented with words. Did you just pull that together this morning. I am officially impressed because that poem is a great success.

Lori, you are too kind. Thank you. Actually what I was going to write was "I have a problem with talking too much, and in my effort to overcome that, I won't say any more." Instead, that's what popped out. Still not sure where it came from, but see - I have a problem with talking too much!

I love it! So well said. I finally posted my word of the year and if I'd read this first I would have just cut and pasted it to my blog. We are two of a kind. We are Julie's, and that's not all bad, right?

I think you are awesome and I love that you are always evaluating your life and trying to do better. I also LOVE that you used lots of words to say "I talk too much". I do the same thing all the time.

Thanks, Julie! Does it just come with the name? And don't you ever change. Your writing wouldn't have near the impact with fewer words!

cute poem mom. And I have the talk too much gene. Thanks for letting me gab your ear off every morning

I agree--there's something about the name Julie. Both on the same wavelength here, weren't you? Both eloquent with words! Good luck with your quest!

I have yet to think you talk to much, at least when it comes to your posts and comments (I don't get to talk to you in person). Everything I have read from you has been truly inspired. I have loved reading every little bit. Thanks for sharing your inspiration and knowledge.
