Found out this morning that my photos of the bird (which I had given to a reporter who requested them) ended up making KSL news.
(Click on the link 'KSL news' above if you're interested - nothing great, just the same pictures I included in the story I blogged a couple of days ago, below)
I'm not sure if the story was just aired on the website, or if it was shown on the morning news. Whatever, I missed it. My one chance to fame and here I sit, credits going to someone entirely other than me ....
Learning that about photography in the news. Back when I was writing for our little local weekly, one of my photos placed first or second in their annual state-wide news competition. Did I get credit? No. Did I even get a certificate or anything acknowledging the photo was mine? No. Mark Haddock happened to mention it had won to me several weeks later, just in passing. Really?
Pulitzer Prize for photos, I believe, is not in my future.

How cool! And really, the photographer should always be given credit for the shot. Stinks that you had to be the anonymous photographer twice. If you hadn't been snapping away they wouldn't have even had a story. Oh well, you know and we know who took that picture and it is still pretty cool that it was used.
That was a hard reality when I was getting my journalism degree and put my time in as one of the CWU photo journalists. Probably one of the reasons I never followed my degree and actually tried to become a photo journalist. I'm sorry Aunt Julie! But they're AWESOME pictures. :) Next time you release your photo's you should make it known some how, verbally or written, that these are YOUR photo's and would like your name affiliated with them. :)
