B is for ...

BEFORE
    Heather joined us at Yellowstone
we saw

BEARS!

Grizzly at Lake

I chuckle when I see this photo of the bear paparazzi (yes, we were part of it)

and we saw
BIRDS!
Harlequin Duck at LeHardy Rapids on the Yellowstone River

Blue Heron on the Madison River

Malards flying away from us

Sandhill Crane
Bald Eagle
Blue Bird at Old Faithful

 And lots and lots of
BEAUTIFUL SCENERY!

We also saw
BUFFALO

 Along with
BUFFALO jams .... lots and lots of them
 And more
BEAR

Along with
FOX
(but that doesn't start with "B")

 We did see
BRENT
taking pictures ...
... of  BIG HORN SHEEP ...

...and MOUNTAIN GOATS LOOKING KIND OF BERAGGLED IN THEIR WINTER COATS
... and MOOSE BEHIND SWAN LAKE.
This is significant - moose have been essentially gone from the Park since the fires in 1988.  It means things are finally recovering.  That's a good sign.   Because the next day we saw another one down in the meadows south of Obsidian Cliffs.

And then there were the

BALCONIES AT OLD FAITHFUL INN

AND BRISK BREEZES USHERING THE NEXT DAY'S STORM ...

...which left little BEADS of rain on the umBrella...

...and made us say BRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Snow splatting on the car windshield (lower left)
So those were our Before Days - we arrived Friday, May 24, and explored and enjoyed the park  from Saturday through Wednesday.   Thursday, May 30, we stayed in the condo and deep cleaned and waited - we waited for the window guys to come and cut out a larger window for the basement - but they never showed up.   We waited to hear news of Brent's father who went in for colon surgery that day.  We worried and we waited for news of his successful outcome (which it was), and we waited for Heather who was riding a shuttle from Salt Lake City to West Yellowstone to join us (which she did - she was early even!)

Next post will be the AFTER days.

B is for Beautiful pictures! Wow, you got some amazing shots. I am jealous, as always of your photo abilities. I do not think I would have been standing as close as those people are to the bear but I would have loved to have seen him. I have only seen a bear in the zoo.

I love yellowstone! When we drove thru in 1993, we (my dad and I) crept up on a field where there were buffalo on one side with a baby and moose on the other side with a baby. It was quite picturesque. I still remember the rush of excitement. My Dad served his mission up there. It encompassed Idaho and Montana. He actually served INSIDE Yellowstone and was there when the Teton dam broke. All quite exciting to hear about. Still, it never gets old to see wildlife in it's element and to capture the beauty of Heavenly Father's creations!

Mike is jealous of Brent's new lens, he wants it to be willed to him:)

I'm amazed at how close you all were to that big bear. He's apparently use to it. But so fun!

You 2 are Yellowstone enthusiasts, one day we might be.
