The sun was shining and I had an entire day when I could do whatever I wanted or needed to do - the yard was screaming for attention and so was the kitchen project. But somehow it just seemed that the most important thing I could do yesterday was a little something for me. Every year I wish I could be with my own mother at Mother's Day time. So this year Brent and I did something about that.
We piled our cameras and our ice chest filled with water into the car and took off for my Mom's house in Rupert, Idaho, where we kidnapped her and Dad for the afternoon. First stop was Shoshone Falls in the canyon near Twin Falls, Idaho. The spring runoff is in full swing and the Falls roar this time of the year. So we spent some time enjoying the magnificence of nature. Dad grew up on a farm near here. He said every spring when he'd go to round up the cows at milking time, the ground would literally rumble from the roar of the Falls. They've been tamed somewhat with a lot of dams upstream, but on big runoff years like this one they come to life again for a brief time, and we had a great time getting to see them.
But mostly we just had a great time being together. We stopped for Italian food at a Johnny Carino's perched near the rim of the canyon in Twin Falls and just had a good experience visiting and being with each other. I hope Mom enjoyed it as much as I did. Thanks, Mom, for taking the time to be with us yesterday. It definitely made my day.
This picture is for you, Mom. See - I got one of the Falls with the birds in it!

What a treat for your mom! Now that I am Mom I get so caught up in my own little world of being pampered on Mother's Day that I forget to make it special for my mom.
Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful photos of a most wonderful day! That's amazing that you caught those daredevil birds playing around the falls. Glad it wasn't a picture of a dare-devil rafting party going "over" the falls! (sorry Heather, I couldn't resist!)
